Emodied Wisdom Therapy Retreats Ubud Bali. 2nd-9th March 2024

About this retreat

Join us in an 8 day / 7 night retreat in the beautiful and healing Island of Bali. We offer a personal journey of healing and self awareness. Guided by Martine Coates (McDougall), an accredited Mental health practitioner, highly skilled Trauma therapist and accredited Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TC-TSY).

Trauma is present when a past experience of threat is still living and breathing inside of us. The extent to which we can heal depends on how much time and how much support we can receive to embody and integrate our traumatised parts. As human beings our highest need is to survive and to bring our mind, body and heart space into union and harmony.

Over the years in her practice as a Trauma Therapy Specialist, Martine’s clients have consistently requested if there are opportunities to “dive deeper in a more intensive therapy environment”. The feedback that she has had from clients is that they would dearly love the opportunity to prioritise a move towards healing in an environment that felt safe, supportive, and focused on them and their healing. Creating new neural networks to re-wire a traumatised brain is greatly enhanced by longer periods of time, repetition, creating awareness and intention and community, making this retreat a wonderful healing and brain changing opportunity.

A powerful aspect of an intensive therapy retreat is the focused, sustained time and effort devoted to your goal. We offer a powerful disruption to the way you usually live your life - your normal way of being in the world, in which habitual patterns are continually reinforced. Stepping out of everyday patterns   disrupts the often stuck or self-limiting patterns- and in that disruption there is the fertile ground for new patterns to be explored and nurtured.

Weekly therapy sessions, whilst helpful, slow down our capacity to heal, often because of the lack of time and space to process and reflect on your healing journey. Giving yourself the dedicated space and time to focus on your healing journey, without having to go to work, or care for others and being cared for allows for our minds and bodies to harmonise and be much more open and able to access ‘self’ and allow your inner self to be more curious, compassionate, reflective, courageous, calm, clear minded and creative.

Our Intensive Therapy retreats combine a unique combination of conventional talk therapy with more holistic, somatic evidence based therapies such as Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Yoga for Anxiety & Depression, Sound Healing and Qigong in a safe space. This combination has made Martine a highly successful and sought-after therapist.

This is more than a retreat:

  • You will be offered an experiential process, encompassing both individually tailored therapy and group yoga therapy.

  • Somatic embodiment and healing practices. Martine is an accredited and highly acclaimed teacher and Professional trainer of Yoga for Embodiment and Healing, which offers evidence based and well researched clinical somatic treatments for Trauma. Bessel van der Kolk (researcher of TCTSY) states:

“It is essential to incorporate somatic practices if you want to facilitate deep healing in yourself or your clients”

  • Small Group numbers - This retreat hosts a maximum of 5 participants, making it oneof it’s kind. This is to allow each participant an optimal amount of time in therapy and to promote a small and safe group experience.

  • The retreat environment offers a healing space, located within the heart of the rice fields with plenty of space, your own pool, the ability to be served your food at your villa or at the dining area. Giving you choice to be alone or spend time wandering in the nearby rice fields, to sit at local cafes and restaurants and watch the world go by, or to go to Ubud Centre which is a short drive away with a shuttle bus running all day and until 10.30pm.

What we treat:

Our Holistic intensive therapy programs are individually crafted and support a wide range of emotional, relational and psychological issues. We specialise in supporting the Improvement of Psychological well being - anxiety, depression, complex trauma and PTSD, attachment disorders, adjustment disorders, panic disorder, disordered eating, burnout, grief and loss and mood disorders.

Intensive Therapy Retreats are offered to individuals, couples and families.

Retreats can be booked privately by a family group, a couple, friend group or workplace group.

Our ability to do meaningful Trauma work with someone is restricted by certain active conditions.  If a person is actively suicidal or unable to guarantee thier safety or compromised by drugs and/or alcohol Trauma processing can be counter productive and possibly further compromise a clients mental state. Please note that onceat there is some safety and stability a Trauma based retreat is a highly effective way to work through and address these issues.

There is no capacity to manage risk or a mental health crisis, therefore it is very important to consider suitability, perhaps discussing with any current support network or providers prior to making a booking. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss your currnt suitability. The opportunity to bring a support person is available and can be discussed on a case by case basis.

Whilst clients are participating in our Intensive Therapy program to gain the maximum benefit from the retreat we recommend abstaining from all Alcohol and Substances.
